The dolphin, personifying the Divine principle, has been known since ancient times of the Sumero-Acadian kingdom. One of the three great Sumerian gods, Ea, was depicted with a fish tail. This God of wisdom, the lord of underground fresh waters, subsequently transformed into the God-creator of man, known under the names of Enki, Haya, Dagon and Oannes, who, after joining the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean territories to the Acadian kingdom, began to be depicted with the body of a dolphin, since by this time evidence of people being rescued at sea by dolphins had already surfaced.

Many nations folklore speaks of "people of the sea" as beings with the gift of providence and capable of flying out of the water and reaching the sky with one jump.

«Your soul is eyes, You will see them again.

Your soul is a dolphin that takes you to the sky...»

The image of the dolphin in astrology is associated with Jupiter, Venus, and the constellation Capricorn.

The Legend of Arion's rescue

For many years, Arion served with King Periander. But the time came when he decided to go on a voyage to Italy. There, the great singer amassed a fortune by singing dithyrambs. And since it was time to return to Corinth, he hired Corinthian sailors since he would not trust anyone else.

The sailors, deceivingly, decided to rob Arion of his treasures and throw him into the open sea. Arion guessed the evil intent of the seamen and begged them to take all his wealth but spare his life. The sailors thought of him and told him to take his own life and throw himself into the sea.

Arion then begged the sailors to let him sing for the last time in his full attire. The sailors rejoiced that they would hear the best singer in the whole world, and they obliged. Arion sang a solemn song, standing at the stern of the ship, and when he finished singing, he threw himself into the sea.

However, his song attracted a flock of dolphins, and one of them took Arion on his back, and safely delivered him to Corinth.
